Strategic Engagement; AFDB & Ministry of Higher Education, “STI” Forum

Challenge: IPA was chosen by the African Development Bank in partnership with Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education among other international agencies to organize the 3rd High Level forum on Science, Technology  and Innovation (STI) in Africa, Cairo, February 2018.

The forum was held in Egypt for the 1st time and was honored with the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, other 8 African leader and close to 1000 attendees represent political, business, developmental  entities.

Solution: Organized full event details and logistics, handled the event-related government relations and ensure decorum engagement with higher-level government officials.

Result: The forum was studded with prominent figures which we brought together with The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research more than 1,000 attendees from a spectrum of VIPs,  government representatives, key opinion leaders, academia and media.

Setting a New Precedent in Taxation

Challenge: A large German cement investor in the Egyptian market, received a claim to pay EGP 63 million of undue taxes.

Solution: IPA build a case based on scientific approach through different resources obtaining reports from credible entities. IPA worked on creating a win-win situation between related parties.

Results: Obtaining the approval from government to waive the 100% of the amount 63M EGP undue taxes in critical time. IPA was able to set forward a new regulation that will be implemented
later on by the tax authorities in Egypt.

Public Dialogue on the Egyptian Investment Law, 2017

Challenge: The negative impact of some articles in the new investment law presented in 2017 on the business community in Egypt.

Solution: IPA organized a strategic dialogue entitled: Investment law: Potential Reform or a New Challenge in cooperation with the Egyptian Credit & Risk Association (ECRA) and with the presence of CEO of General Authority For  Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) as a keynote speaker.

A Recommendation Paperincluding a policy brief was developed and submitted to the political authorities including the Supreme Council for Investment, the Egyptian Cabinet, the Egyptian legislative authority and the  General Authority for Investment and Free Zones to ensure full alignment.

Results: Ratifying and accelerating changes on the executive regulations to  incorporate recommendations and mitigate risks on the business community.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs – EAPD

Challenge: IPA faced the challenge of supporting multilateral work in Africa and contributing to one of its strategic national projects. This involved providing crucial support to the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Solution: IPA developed a fully integrated manual to implement the recommended strategy and successfully executed a constructive stakeholders mapping to support the strategy tactical plan. Additionally, external communication and media plans were provided as well as sectorial data base for the business community. IPA implemented a strategic calendar of events to maximize the agency exposure across African countries and created a full Identity for the agency. Lastly, IPA Developed all necessary digital strategy and marketing materials to ensure the visibility of its work in the targeted countries

Result: IPA assisted in formulating and implementing an external strategy for promoting Egypt's development efforts in Africa, which included identifying suitable stakeholders and potential partners aligned with Egyptian foreign policy. The assistance provided by IPA lasted for a period of three years.

International Oil & GAS Companies Debts

Challenge: The government owed debts to the oil and gas companies operating in Egypt amounted for $6 billion, which would have caused the exit of many companies from the Egyptian market, in addition to the international arbitration endeavors.

Solution: A direct government decision influencing case carried out jointly by IPA and our PR firm. Private talks were held with the government to communicate a clear message about the increasing risk of these debts.

Result: Gaining the presidential and prime minister’s attention to the issue and
taking the necessary actions to settling and rescheduling those debts.

Huawei’s Innovation Day

Huawei’s Innovation Day

Challenge: Huawei faced the challenge of promoting its smart city solutions in the Egyptian industry, leveraging the country's progress in real estate and harnessing its technology wealth for construction purposes. The goal was to open new markets and generate interest among stakeholders in Huawei's technology for urban development.

Solution: IPA strategically consulted Huawei utilizing different public affairs tactics that led to a very important event "Innovation for Technological Urban Development" to showcase Huawei's smart city solutions. They conducted interactive sessions on topics like financial technology and the digital economy, engaging stakeholders from various sectors including finance, housing, and communications. The event highlighted the smart cities revolution in Egypt, particularly in the New Administrative Capital.

Results: IPA's efforts contributed to opening new markets for Huawei in Egypt by highlighting their technology in the context of smart cities and urban development. Such efforts successfully and sustainably engaged around 250 different stakeholders ranging from government officials to business community and international organizations.
